Last night a few friends and I took on the playtest for D&D next and ventured toward the caves of Chaos. Overall we found the system entertaining. The symplistic style of the rules hides a more complex underbelly full of interesting ways to construct a character. Obviously the system is not finished and there was a very funny moment when the Wizard cast sleep over the entire party and 9 Kobolds and then preceded to cut the heads off each Kobold in turn. 3d8 hit dice affected and no save? What kind of horseshit is that? A goddamn Titan could rock up and challenge the players to a duel, the hollow boned wizard steps forward and says “Lets go, you and me. Mono a Mono.”
The Titan lets out a mighty laugh, raises his gigantic waraxe and prepairs to cleave the tiny whelp into oblivion. At that moment the wizard blows a handful of sparkly dust into the titans face and the mighty warlord falls to the ground asleep as the rest of the party chop him into bitesize chunks. NO, i say, NO!
So as i say D&D next, work in progress. Overall though i like what i’m seeing. Apart from a sleepy titan.
